A Drug and Alcohol-Free
Zone for Participants of Pride Day 1999
The
Free Zone, a drug and alcohol-free oasis for anyone attending Pride Day
1999, is organized by employees and volunteers from addictions treatment
centres in Toronto. It is a place of safety, fun and connection for those
in recovery, or for those who just prefer a drug and alcohol-free zone.
The Free Zone will have a live entertainment, information tables, refreshments,
face painters, jugglers and other fun activities.
This
year the Free Zone will be located at Paul Kane Parkette, which is just
east of Church Street on Wellesley across from the Orthopaedic Hospital.
On Sunday, June 27, 1999 you are invited to join us as a part of your
PRIDE day coverage.
Pride
Day can be difficult for gay, lesbian and bisexual people who are in substance
abuse treatment or recovery. Many people miss one of the best Pride celebrations
in North America in order to avoid drinking. Now they have the Free Zone,
a place to meet, party, listen to music and be a part of this great celebration.
The
second annual Free Zone is sponsored by the Centre for Addiction and Mental
Health, Concerns Canada, Just For Today, the Jean Tweed Centre, the YMCA
Youth Substance Abuse Program and the St. Michael's Hospital Health Centre.
Building
on the legacies of four outstanding organizations, the Centre offers a
unique model for understanding and helping people with addiction and mental
illness, for preventing substance abuse and for promoting mental health.
It operates central clinical and research facilities in Toronto, Ontario,
as well as 12 community offices across the province. While the Centre's
work focuses on the needs of Ontario communities, our impact extends across
the country and internationally.
