"This conference is an important step in ensuring the best possible
care for all Canadians experiencing severe and persistent mental health
problems," says Paula Goering, Conference co-chair and Director,
Health Systems Research Unit at the Centre for Addiction and Mental
Health. "It will help build understanding across the four perspectives,
and foster the translation of research into practice which in turn will
enhance efforts to reform mental health services and supports across
Canada."
Building
on the legacies of four outstanding organizations, the Centre for Addiction
and Mental Health offers a unique model for understanding and helping
people with addiction and mental illness, for preventing substance abuse
and for promoting mental health. It operates central clinical and research
facilities in Toronto, Ontario, as well as 12 community offices across
the province. While the Centre's work focuses on the needs of Ontario
communities, our impact extends across the country and internationally.
