Regional Services

Regional Services -- Overview

Staff from Regional Services work with community partners across the province to enhance the capacity and quality of services and systems to prevent and reduce harm associated with addiction and mental health problems. Our contributions are wide-ranging and evident in our work on prevention and health promotion, harm reduction, treatment and support programs. We work with organizations such as schools, municipalities, community groups, media, public health units, district health councils and addiction and mental health agencies on programming, planning and policy development initiatives. We provide expertise, resources, knowledge and skills in the areas of addictions, mental health, policy development, systems planning, evaluation consulation, community training, research, program development, health promotion and prevention programs, and advocacy.

Regional Services -- Priority Programs

At the present time, our efforts are focused on three main areas: youth, concurrent disorders (those who experience both mental health and addiction problems), and diverse populations (women, gay/lesbian/ bisexual/ transgendered, seniors, those with literacy issues, race/culture/ ethnicity, new Canadians, language barriers, religious beliefs).

Systems Planning and Development

Throughout Ontario, system planning consultants provide expert advice to addiction and mental health systems and those who plan for a range of integrated programs. The goal is to develop accessible, appropriate and effective services that meet the needs of those who require help in a timely and coordinated fashion. To accomplish this, we ensure the services are needs-based and can also accomodate the priority groups mentioned above. This is done by working in collaboration with key stakeholders and in using an evidence-based and best practices perspective.

Program Planning and Development

Through a wide network of 12 hub and 16 satellite offices, a team of project consultants provide assistance to local communities across Ontario. They assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of project-based initiatives to improve addiction and mental health services and public understanding of those issues at the local level. The team provides a conduit for information between those researchers investigating problems and developing new programs and ideas, and those in the community responsible for implementing them at the local level. They facilitate the transfer of new knowledge to the communities, matching new programs, products and services to local needs and issues. Secondly, they facilitate identification of further areas of research.

  • information on the program and requirements for drivers convicted of driving while impaired;

  • provides information on enrolling for a program with service providers in approximately 30 locations throughout the province;
  • provides overall information to outside agencies about the remedial measures program and
  • liaises with the MOHLTC and MTO.

    Contact: Drivers who have not yet registered or paid the program fee, or who have a question about registration, should contact the Program Management Office at Tel:(416) 595-6593 or toll-free in Ontario at Tel:1 (888) 814-5831. Program and registration information is also available through our Web site (http://www.remedial.net) and by fax at (416) 595-6735.

    Drivers who have completed registration and are ready to begin services, should contact Addiction Programs at Tel:(416) 535-8501, ext. 6138, to schedule the remedial components they require (i.e. assessment, an education or treatment program, or a follow-up interview).

Planning and Evaluation Response Team (PERT)

The Planning and Evaluation Response Team (PERT) provides consultation in program planning and evaluation for substance abuse and mental health agencies and systems, community committees and coalitions. PERT provides several specific consultation services, including helping agencies or community groups develop a Logic Model and an Evaluation Framework. The Logic Model is a "picture" of the agency's primary services, short and long term objectives, and intended outcomes of the services they provide to their clients. The Logic Model can be used as a guide to plan for new services, or as the first step in planning for an evaluation of their services.

The Evaluation Framework is the second step in planning an evaluation. Derived from the agency's Logic Model, it helps agency staff identify specific evaluation questions that they are interested in, what data need to be collected, data collection methods, and the resources that will be required to successfully engage in an evaluation. PERT consultants provide on-site consultation, workshops, and telephone consultations. PERT consultation services are available at no cost to any publicly funded substance abuse or mental health agency in Ontario.
