Schizophrenia
Program
Through its 245 inpatient beds and 17 ambulatory services, the Schizophrenia Program
provides care at all stages of the illness. Services include prevention, treatment
for first episode psychosis, Medication Assessment Program for Schizophrenia (MAPS),
rehabilitation, and care for the severely and persistently mentally ill.
The Schizophrenia Program has a single referral form and centralized process.
Referral forms are reviewed and sent to the appropriate service for assessment.

The Schizophrenia Program is part of the Peel Access to Specialty
CAMH Program Agreement. Inpatient programs can be accessed based on the client's
need for specialized services by Peel service providers including hospital staff
or community services. The Peel Access Coordinator ensures the coordination of referrals,
admissions, and discharges back to the Peel community.

ACCESS
Time limited outpatient continuing care service designed to serve people with
serious mental illness who have a diagnosis of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder.
A team of multidisciplinary health care professionals, following the principles of
psychosocial rehabilitation, provide one on one counselling and support to meet the
goals of the client. Treatment is client directed and focussed on living, learning,
work and social needs.

Archway/STOP A Women's Clinic
Community-based outpatient program with a client-centred focus. It strives to
enhance the quality of life for individuals suffering from severe, persistent mental
illness. The multidisciplinary team's goal is to serve and/or coordinate all client
needs. A specialized Women's Clinic is offered at Archway for women with schizophrenia
who would benefit from a rehabilitation approach that incorporates feminist principles.

CARE/STOP B
Outpatient Continuing Care service designed to serve the seriously mentally ill

Central Link
This off-site service provides a coordinated and comprehensive treatment program
for people who have chronic schizophrenia or related disorders and are living in
the community. The approach is multidisciplinary and holistic. Assessment, individual
and group counselling, medication monitoring, case management and education are also
provided.

Centralized Services
Centralized Services provides diverse therapeutic activities, assessment and psychosocial
therapy services for individuals with mental health and/or addiction problems at
the Centre. These services include: art therapy, recreation therapy, clinical nutrition,
creative crafts/creative arts studio, hair salon, music therapy, and physiotherapy.
The goal of Centralized Services is to contribute to improved psychosocial and physical
functioning and quality of life of individuals with mental illness and/or addictions
at CAMH.
Currently, Centralized Services provides programs primarily for clients in the
Schizophrenia Program; however, referrals from other programs within CAMH are welcome.

First Episode LEARN
LEARN is a new initiative. This service offers a range of social,
educational and vocational opportunities aimed at maximizing the integration of individuals
who have had a first episode of psychosis into mainstream community life and positive

First Episode Psychosis Clinic/Early
Psychosis Unit
Designed to meet the needs of individuals experiencing a first episode of psychosis.
Getting help in the early stages of illness is critical. Assists individuals and
their families with the initial period of recovery and adjustment. Priority is given
to individuals who have not yet received any antipsychotic treatment and are 18 to
45.

Home Intervention for Psychosis
(HIP)
Home Intervention for Psychosis (HIP) is a specialized team that
assesses and treats people who have a first episode of psychosis in the community.
HIP is available to Toronto residents 16-45. HIP offers combined services of psychiatrists,
social workers, occupational therapists and psychiatric nurses.

Inpatient Care
Units 2-2, 2-3, 2-5, 4-3 and 4-5 provide care for clients requiring hospitalization
for treatment of schizophrenia or related disorders. The inpatient staff provide
the daily treatment and care for the client with support from the Continuing Care
Team which continues to follow the client whether in hospital or living in the community.

Integrated Rehabilitation Unit (IRU)
The IRU is designed to provide care for the most severely and persistently
mentally ill clients who require a stable, long-term setting and active rehabilitation.
This home-like rehabilitation-focused program emphasizes flexibility, increased social
stimulation and support in skills development. The goals of the IRU are to promote
the highest level of quality of life for clients and to assist clients in acheiving
their individual rehabilitation and recovery goals.

Unit 2-1, provides short-term stabilization and treatment for Schizophrenia Program
clients who are experiencing an acute exacerbation of their illness.

Lakeshore Outpatient Clinic (LSOP)
A community-based outpatient and community clinic that provides service to the
west end of Toronto and, in particular, Etobicoke. Offers comprehensive treatment
to individuals who suffer from severe mental illness, focussing primarily on schizophrenia
disorders. Using a psychosocial rehabilitation and client-centred approach, the clinicians
assist clients in achieving goals in the areas of housing, recreation, education
and vocation in the community.

Medication Assessment Program
for Schizophrenia (MAPS)
Offers medication consultation on a rapid outpatient basis. Evaluates the effectiveness
of client's medication in controlling symptoms, assesses any side effects, and addresses
any antipsychotic-induced movement disorders. Aim is to find a medication best suited
to client's needs.

Peel CAMH Offices
Peel First Assessment Clinical
Team (FACT - Peel)
Offers services dedicated to the assessment and treatment of individuals from
16 to 35 years who are at risk for or who are experiencing signs of a first-episode
psychosis. The clinic is a multi-disciplinary outpatient program that was established
because of community needs and is affiliated with one of the leading first-episode
programs in North America. The program provides assessment and follow-up and serves
as a resource to the client, their families and to health care providers in the community.

Peel Vocational Services
A specialized employment service that assists individuals aged 16 and above, living
with mental illness with their vocational goals. Through partnerships and affiations,
we provide clients with connections to a network of services to meet their own individualized
needs. Our community linkages ensure participants benefit from having access to assessments,
training and job developers in the Region of Peel. Although providing some elements
of educational and employment counselling, the focus of Peel Vocational Services
is job coaching.

Prevention Through Risk Identification
Management and Education (PRIME) Clinic
An outpatient service dedicated to the early identification and treatment of individuals
age 12 to 45 who are at risk of developing psychosis. Interventions may include both
psychosocial and medication strategies. Education for clients and family members
is also a key component of this program.

ProAct
Outpatient Continuing Care service addresses the needs of adults suffering from
schizophrenia who require intensive service. The multidisciplinary team members follow
the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation. The goal is to maintain this chronic
population in community living. The hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m.

The Shared Care Clinical Outreach
Program
This program, in partnership the University Health Network and St. Michael's Hospital,
works with men and women who are homeless and experiencing serious and persistent
mental health concerns. Shared Care Clinical Outreach Service addresses the physical
and mental health needs of homeless people using the shelters, hostels and drop-ins
in the downtown Toronto area. Team members include full-time registered nurses, outreach
workers, a housing worker, visiting family physicians and visiting psychiatrists
as consultants. Shared Care teams work collaboratively with staff from other agencies
to deliver respectful and comprehensive care and facilitate access to resources,
enhancing the individual's quality of life.

Ventures
Outpatient Continuing Care service that provides client centred mental health
services based on the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation to persons suffering
from schizophrenia. Using a multidisciplinary team approach, clients are provided
with psychiatric and discipline specific assessment; linkages to community supports
and services; clinical case coordination; community support; and individual counselling.
Psychoeducation is provided to clients, families/significant others and community
partners.

Day Care, Assessment, Rehabilitation
and Education (DARE) Centre
A community based vocational and recreational program for people with persistent
mental illness. DARE offers opportunities for education, skills training, supported
work, self employment and socialization. Clients choose from education, creative
hands, woodworking, recreation, sub-contract cooperative and cooperative café
to devise a daily schedule tailored to their individual needs.

Day Centre
Off-site day service provides opportunities for education, socialization and recreation
to individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia or related illnesses. Activities such
as community outings, sports, arts and crafts and music appreciation are available
daily. An 8-week psychoeducation program is offered 4 times per year covering topics
such as interpersonal skills, illness management, medication, stress management,
cooking and nutrition, life skills, assertiveness, job preparation, problem solving
and community resources. Support groups focusing on women's issues, parenting, or
interpersonal relationships are also offered.

Vocational Resources Centre (VRC)
Offers vocational assessment, work skills and computer training, vocational counselling,
supported employment, supported education (English as a Second Language and adult
basic English), and on-site employment training (job development and job coaching)
in client facilitated small businesses. The service is currently available to inpatients
and outpatients of the Queen Street site.
