Addiction
Treatment Program for Special Populations
Offers specialized treatment options to meet the unique needs of all the clients
served at the Centre. The Addiction Treatment Program for Special Populations takes
into consideration the different treatment needs of the communities we serve, and
offers a range of services to meet those needs.
Aboriginal Service
Provides individual counselling and street outreach services to Aboriginals experiencing
homelessness, substance abuse and mental health issues. Other services include: telephone
counselling, professional consultation and education.

Cocaine Service
Provides cocaine-specific outpatient treatment across two sites for clients age
18 and over whose primary drug of abuse is cocaine. The service at the Donwood site
includes preparatory, three-week day treatment and aftercare phases, using a holistic
approach. The service at the ARF site provides intensive outpatient and aftercare
support that includes cognitive behavioural treatment, relapse prevention and recovery
education. The Cocaine Service also provides treatment services for the Toronto Drug
Treatment Court program.

Family Services
Provides treatment and support services to family members who are concerned about
the substance abuse of someone else. The person of concern may or may not be in treatment
at the Centre. Service is provided in both group and individual formats. Family or
couple counselling is also provided to clients of a Centre addiction service and
their family members. Provides educational workshops and consultation. Parenting
groups for clients who are parents and for parents of substance using youth.

Rainbow Services
Provides to the gay, lesbian, transgender, transexual and bisexual communities:
consultation and assessment; individual, couple and group therapy; weekly outpatient
groups; 3-week day/residential treatment groups; support groups for loved ones; aftercare
groups; support with coming out; coping with oppression; and education, training
and consultation service to providers. Single gender (lesbian/bi women or gay/bi
men groups are offered as well as mixed gender LGBT groups.

Substance Abuse Program for African
Canadian and Caribbean Youth (SAPACCY)
Offers culturally sensitive, African-centered outpatient treatment for at-risk
youth who present with a substance use problem and/or other mental health issues.
SAPACCY offers both treatment and a prevention program to African Canadian and Caribbean
youth, ages 13 to 29. Through SAPACCY, youth and families
learn about drugs, alcohol and tobacco, the effects on the body, mind and lifestyle.

manage anger; resolve conflicts; respond to prejudice and racism; and handle contact
with the police.
develop "life" skills to build positive relationships; take care of
your health; and take responsibility in the family and the community.

Project Sunrise (a part of SAPACCY)
Teach and invest skills in vulnerable/at risk youth necessary to
prevent involvement in crime or victimization as a result of poor decision making
and conflict resolution. The provision of education in the Afrocentric principles
(Nguzo saba), Ma'at (African tradition principles of virtue) and Yogic Tenets will
reduce crime and violence in this vulnerable group.
Yoga: These 12-week time-limited sessions will help to decrease
anxiety, depression, defensiveness, guilt, tension, hostility and anger (reducing
these will have a direct effect on crime and violence in youth). Increase openness
to experience, conflict resolution, self-concept, body image, interpersonal relationships,
self-esteem, and ethical self and spiritual orientation.

Toronto Drug Treatment Court (DTC)
Provides court supervised treatment for individuals addicted to cocaine and/or
opiates who have been charged with possession of, or trafficking in, small quantities
of crack/cocaine or heroin. Clients participate in a structured outpatient program
with extensive case management services. Upon successful completion of the program,
which lasts approximately one year, clients receive a non-custodial sentence, rather
than incarceration.
The DTC is a partnership between the Centre, the Ontario Court of Justice, the
federal Department of Justice and many community agencies. The program is open to
non-violent offenders with the charges described above. People with prostitution
related offences are also eligible to participate. Prospective clients need to apply
through their lawyer. Entry into the program is voluntary: prospective clients need
to apply through their lawyer. The office of the Duty Counsel can assist them.

Women's Service
Counselling helps women identify their high risk situations for substance use
and develop alternative, healthier ways to take care of themselves. With the guidance
of an experienced female counsellor, a woman can choose treatment that supports her
goals and lifestyle.

Youth Service
Treatment for clients age 16 to 24 who have substance use problems, with or without
concurrent mental health issues. Offers consultations and assessment; limited case
management; outpatient counselling in group and individual formats; aftercare groups;
family support; and a comprehensive day program for clients who wish to attend high
school and/or work on life skills in addition to obtaining substance treatment.
Referral required: Yes, although exceptions are sometimes made
based on the situation.
