Admission, Discharge and Assessment Tool (ADAT) Training

This is an online course that will help you to learn to use Ontario's standardized package of assessment tools for clients with substance use problems and to link the assessment results to the Admission and Discharge Criteria. The purpose of the course is to train and education individuals to be effective in using the assessment tools and linking them to the Admission and Discharge Criteria.

It is an interactive online course yet self-study course that utilizes the Standardized Tools and Criteria Manual: Helping Clients Navigate Addiction Treatment in Ontario, developed by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The course includes several case studies, discussion forums, short answer and multiple-choice questions. The pace of learning may be different for each participant and the materials will support these paces of learning.

Participants will engage in an interactive discussion forum with other on-line learners and will receive feedback on their work from peers.

By the end of the course, learners will:

  • Understand the importance of standardized assessment tools and Admission and Discharge Criteria

  • Achieve competency in the administration, scoring and interpretation of the assessment tools
  • Link the findings of the assessment tools and the Admission and Discharge Criteria.
  • Become fluent in the new service definitions for Ontario
  • Apply the admission and discharge criteria to clinical cases
