The Centre for Addiction and Mental
Health Library loans audiovisual materials only within the Province of
Ontario. The collection of videos and kits can be reviewed in the Library
or borrowed. These materials are to be used for educational purposes only
and may not be copied, edited, broadcast, or cablecast. The Copyright
Act governs the making of reproductions of copyrighted materials. Copying
without the written permission of the copyright holder is an infringement
of the Copyright Act. The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is not
able to grant permission for users of audio-visual material to make copies.
How to Borrow Audiovisuals
All borrowers must be registered
members of the library. Persons working in agencies, schools health facilities
may access resources by arranging with their organisations to FAX a loan
request on official letterhead to (416) 595-6601. Students must arrange
loans through the audiovisual service or resource person at their school.
Members of the general public outside Toronto may borrow through the Inter
Library Loan service of their public library. Individuals in Toronto apply
for borrowing privileges in person. Cards are mailed, with the process
taking about one week. Audio-visuals must be reserved ahead of time and
are subject to availability. They may be borrowed for the length of time
required to ship, show and return them to the Centre Library, generally
7 to 8 days. If you have further questions you may call (416) 535-8501,
ext. 6987.
Conditions of Loan
Borrowers in Toronto are responsible
for the pick up and return of loans. Items can be sent to borrowers outside
of Toronto by courier. The borrower is responsible for arranging and paying
for the return courier.
The borrower is responsible for
the care of audio-visual material. Charges will be levied for replacement
of items lost or damaged due to negligence. (The average cost of a video
is $300.)
Report any malfunction to the
AV technician before return of the item. Do not attempt to repair or modify
audio-visual materials in any way.
Audio-visual materials will be
returned by the due date unless an extension is granted.
Please call the AV service (416)
535-8501 x6987 to request loan extensions.
A fine of $5.00 per day per item
may be levied against borrowers who do not return audio-visuals by the
required date. Please ensure that loans are returned to the Library on
or before the due date.
Materials must be packaged securely
to prevent damage. Do not use recycled fibre-filled envelopes - padding
in this kind of envelope contaminates videotapes and VCR's.
Reviewing Videos in the Library
A video monitor is available in
the Library for individual viewers and may be booked in advance by calling
the AV desk at (416) 535-8501, ext. 6987.
Using the Audiovisuals
List
Audiovisuals are listed alphabetically
under their subject heading. There is a brief description of the program,
running time, year of production, target audience, availability in other
languages, and a rating. Video ratings are based on a 6 point scale and
are assigned by the Centre's AV Assessment Committee. Higher numbers indicate
better quality. Materials not formally reviewed by the Committee do not
have ratings. The Centre cannot ensure the scientific accuracy of these
programs.
Notice: some videos are intended
for specific audiences. The Centre recommends that all programs be reviewed
before showing them to any audience. Some titles have cautionary warnings
about content.
A
Subject Index provides access to audiovisual titles by both general
topics and specific subject areas such as alcohol related birth defects.
